Botulinum Toxin (BTX) has been used for over 25 years and is a type of purified protein produced by the Clostridium Botulinum bacterium. It is very safe and is injected directly into the facial muscles in very tiny amounts during treatment.
Botulinum Toxin works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the facial muscles that have been injected. This makes the muscles less active and therefore softens and smoothens the appearance of persistent lines and wrinkles.
In most cases patients will see a real difference after one treatment. This is because the Botulinum Toxin works gradually, smoothening and softening lines and wrinkles for up to 4 months.
Every face is unique, and we will advise you on the likely number and frequency of treatments you will require depending on the results you want to achieve.
The effects of Botulinum Toxin often last up to 4 months, depending on the patient, after which time any permanent lines and wrinkles will gradually return.
It is very rare for the treatment with Botulinum Toxin to be painful.
Most patients experience a feeling of slight discomfort during the treatment, but that is all.
We will aim to meet your expectations, and will be mindful not to over-contour the lips. We will avoid bulking out this sensitive area excessively.
With BTX injections you may have a little redness at the injection sites, which will subside after a few hours. Following dermal filler injections you may experience temporary mild bruising and swelling – so you may decide not to return to work that day.
